Renoites- The Podcast about Reno Nevada
Society & Culture
I hope you've enjoyed these shorter episodes with mini interviews! This is the final of the 5 bonus episodes recorded at Northern Nevada Pride on 7/23/22 in Reno, Nevada.
At the festival, I set up a mobile recording studio with big comfy chairs and invited friends, former guests, folks from various nonprofits, and even a couple passersby to sit down and record quick interviews to share what they do and the things that matter to them.
Each of these five bonus episodes contained a handful of mini interviews. I'm very grateful to everyone who took some time to sit down and chat at the festival and am excited to share these conversations with you.
Bonus Episode 5 features:
Aaron Sims is a candidate for State Senate District 16, a uniquely shaped district which covers Carson City and much of the areas surrounding Reno and Sparks. Aaron explained why he's running for office and how listeners can get involved or learn more about the campaign.
Wesley McQuillen is from Alter Strategies, a marketing firm focused on clients in age restricted industries. His clients include dispensaries, alcohol and tobacco brands, and other businesses that have special challenges to their ability to advertise. We talked about the power of organic marketing on social media, including creating Instagram filters as a marketing tool. Neat stuff!
Shauna Gains is a member of the Rotary Club of Midtown and explained just what Rotary does as a service organization, the "4-way test" as a guide to our relationships and communication (see below) and much more!
Claudia Cruz is in charge of the internship program for the Reynolds School of Journalism at UNR. We talked about the unique challenges of journalism as a field that is often based on real-life experience in addition to classroom study, as well as the new skills that journalists will need in the post-covid world of remote work.
Alysia Dynamik runs educational programming at The Generator, the community art space which recently re-opened their doors in a new location in the Oddie District in Sparks. Alysia talked about the summer maker camps for kids this year and the hopes for additional educational programming in the future.
Thank you so much for listening! This is the last of the 5 bonus episodes from Northern Nevada Pride. I hope you've enjoyed this change of pace and different format during the between-season period this summer. Regular episodes return on August 30! Let me know what you think at conor@renoites.com
