UK threats to trigger Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol are distracting and unhelpful.

So says the European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič who is the Co.Chair of the EU-UK Joint Committee. He made the comments during an online address to the Dublin based Institute of International and European Affairs this morning.

The UK’s Brexit Minister David Frost has threatened to trigger Article 16 unless they get significant concessions from Brussels on the Protocol.

But Maroš Šefčovič warned the EU will not renegotiate the protocol and that they were making major efforts to provide solutions to the problems caused by it.
