It took an awful lot to get Richard to a point where he recognized it might be a problem and once he did, he was able to surrender fully to the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Every day since, and one day at a time, he has continued to turn himself over to a god of his own understanding and to make living amends (and direct amends) to those he had harmed.
