12-3-22 Pushing The Envelope: Music Decidedly Left of Center

Greetings!

This week's program features some great new releases featuring Canadian related composers & musicians, including Nick Storring, Yang Chen, Yaz Lancaster & Badge Époque Ensemble.  In addition, you'll hear a set of pieces featuring a piece of flute hardware, created by flutist Robert Dick, the Glissando Headjoint.  (http://robertdick.net/the-glissando-headjoint/)

 

Dick's creation features a telescoping headjoint, with a contemporary cut silver headjoint sliding inside a carrier tube. Two “wings” extend from the lip plate and comfortably embrace the flutist’s cheeks. Moving the flute to the right slides the headjoint from its “home position” (all the way in) and extends the length of the flute, resulting in the ability to produce glissandi which can be made both to and from every note on the flute, resulting in some incredible sounds.
