In India, 1.25 lakh women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year. 60-70% of these are present in advanced stages, and 20-30% lose their lives. Prevention: Cervical cancer can be prevented if the HPV vaccine is administered to females aged 9-26 years.
Screening: Women over 21 years should get a Pap smear done once in 3 years, which helps identify cancer early.
