Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Water baptism is an outward demonstration of the inward work of God. When you received Christ as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit baptized you into the body of Christ. You became a part of Jesus and He became a part of you. What occurred is nothing less than a miracle!
Going down in the water symbolize the burial of the old person, it also symbolized being immersed into Jesus Christ. Coming up out of the water symbolized being raised from the dead. The amazing result of all of this is that you can “walk in newness of life.”
In a life and world full of old, tired things, look for the newness God has provided! When you expect it, you will see it and often be pleasantly surprised.
Reflection Question: What is the significance of water baptism. How are you experiencing “newness” in your life?
