We’re deep into degradation and despair, because we’re into week 3 of our Sam Peckinpah retrospective Bloody Samtember and we’ve been watching a whole heap of ultra-depressing, ultra-violent cinema made by a drug addicted madman. This week we watched the most Sam Peckinpah of all Sam Peckinpah films, BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA (1974), a movie that not only had the nerve to cast Warren Oates as its lead, it also had the nerve to cast a rotting, fly-covered severed head as his co-star. It’s like CASTAWAY but extremely gross, and we talked all about it!
