Timothy Gallagher talked with host Pam Marvin about his book, A Layman's Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours: How the Prayers of the Church Can Change Your Life, and answered questions from callers! The Liturgy of the Hours, often called the Divine Office, means the "sacred duty" or, the "holy task." It entails periodic return to God in prayer (liturgical prayer) through the hours of the day. "Liturgical" prayer means that the prayer is something that the Church gives us - it is the same for all throughout the Church. There is morning prayer, daytime prayer, evening prayer, night prayer and a more meditative prayer called the office of readings, which can be done at any time in the day. Despite the common misconception, The Liturgy of the Hours is for everyone, not just priests, monks, and nuns; It is for everyone to pray - the common layman included! Listen to Fr.
