With Cycling Australia including Bathurst’s Mt Panorama in its inaugural On-line virtual Tour of Australia, this podcast looks at the history of the bicycles on the famous motor racing circuit.
The first Bicycle Event on Mt Panorama was in 1939 which was followed by 40years of very little till Martin Whiteley, a 17yr old school boy convinced the Authorities to give permission to use Mt Panorama for a 3 day cycling event.
That event opened up Mt Panorama as a state, then national and then International cycling venue. It also had a lot to do with the birth of Mountain Bikes in Australia. This podcast then discusses a major junior event in the 1990s ahead of numerous CNSW state Championships and even a NRS round in the Mt Panorama precinct. It then looks a round of the UCI Grand Fondo World Series establishing itself in Bathurst using the famous motor racing circuit.
