Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn have both stepped back from frontline politics while making comments that suggest their brands of socialism will win in the long term. Corbyn claimed, even in the aftermath of an enormous general election defeat, that the Left had “won the argument”.
Does he have a point? Are young socialists no longer ‘growing out of socialism’ like their parents and grandparents? There aren’t that many Maoist pensioners in Britain after all! Could socialists be beaten at the ballot box but shift the overall debate?
Joining Emma Revell, IEA Head of Communications, to discuss this are Mark Littlewood, Director-General at the Institute of Economic Affairs, and Dr Kristian Niemietz, Head of Political Economy and author of ‘Socialism: The Failed Idea That Never Dies’.
This discussion was originally recorded as a video for the IEA's 'Cast of Thousands' series and you can watch the video on our Youtube channel.
