You may remember that in the New Testament book of Matthew, Jesus talks about the wise man building his house upon rock, vs the foolish building his house upon the sand.
Think about our physical being as a house. What sort of foundation does it rest on? When we are on rock, we can observe the comings and goings of the stock market, the economy in general, and other "conditions," but rest assured that we are safe. We can even go through stormy weather without being tossed about. On the other hand, if we judge by appearances, and tie our good to any source outside of ourselves (because we know Spirit is within us), it is like we are built on sand.
