In this episode on All the WRITE Marketing, Maria Dismondy talks with Lisa Rose, an educator and author on how you can diversify your child’s bookshelf.
Lisa Rose is a recovering first-grade teacher now turned author. As a mother of a special needs daughter, she noticed that there weren’t many diverse children's books. It was important to Lisa to have books that represent other groups of people or individuals that you don’t often see. She made it her mission to create books that were fun but that also created awareness around diversity. Lisa believes that when children can see themselves or others that may look different than them in stories it creates connection, common ground, and empathy for others.

Quote from show:
“Children need to have what we call mirrors, where they can see themselves in books and also windows where they can see others. As you see others it creates empathy for the other because they find that they have so much in common”
