This week we are talking about a Bible verse that keeps life simple. It tells us that God requires us to do three things. “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 ESV
I was reminded of this verse one day at work when a retired pastor told me all God wanted me to do was three things. Friends, I was leaning into whatever this nice man was about to tell me.
He held up his hand and said to do these three things and things will be better for everyone. “If our country would just do this we would be in a lot better shape,” he said. Holding up three fingers he said to “God wants us to act justly. Be honest. Do what is fair & right.” He said for the second thing God requires us to do is to “Love mercy. Don’t worry about what’s in your head. We need to focus on our hearts. God is looking at our heart.” And he said for the third thing God requires us to do is to “Walk humbly. God doesn’t look at our skin, He looks at our heart. God came to us from a lowly position. We are to do the same.”
Then he showed me his tai chi moves which were awesome. I tried them out and laughed the entire time. It was so fun!
We continued to laugh together as a group came together to try to learn his tai chi moves. He was a great teacher, very patient! But when we left the conversation, he said to me quietly the verse we talked about was from “Micah 6:8.”
God used that man to speak to me. I pray this scripture that I believe God put on His heart will also speak to you.
Here's the NIV version of this scripture, Micah 6:8 -- "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
