We continue our detailed study of Genesis and the story of Cain and Abel by reflecting further on the Bible’s radical call to love. Time and again, Scripture affirms that the ‘vertical’ problem of our alienation from the divine cannot be separated from the ‘horizontal’ problem of disconnection from one another. The solution is most perfectly expressed in the teaching of Jesus, who calls us to an extraordinary sacrificial love. Whether manifested in spectacular or everyday, mundane ways, this Christlike love is the power which can decisively change our world.
