Stephen Austin ran for the Montgomery County Board of Education in 2020. 

He placed third in the June 2020 primary election and did not advance to the general election.

In May 2020, Mr. Austin joined A Miner Detail Podcast for a follow-up interview after he was maligned and attacked by the Montgomery County Democratic Party machine.
