House Republican leaders have repeatedly signaled their intention to give President Obama what he desperately wants – namely, legislative approval for an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens in this country. That includes Majority Leader Eric Cantor, even though he has claimed in a closely contested primary occurring tomorrow that he opposes such a step.
The prospect of “a path to citizenship” is catalyzing a fresh surge of illegal aliens crossing the southern border, including lately many tens of thousands of children from Central America.
The costs are staggering and will only grow larger still – unless we stop incentivizing such trafficking and secure the border. Republicans in Texas last week insisted on that approach. Eric Cantor must do the same after his primary. And so must the rest of the House leadership.
