The Chinese Threat

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. Communist China’s leaders just finished a meeting that seems to have been consumed with who will lead that country next.  It is extremely worrying that the People’s Liberation Army is likely to determine the outcome. The generals are evidently parlaying their role as king-makers into influence over policy and budget priorities.  That won’t be good for us, as it will almost certainly result in China adopting a more confrontational stance with the United States. China’s defense budget has been growing at double-digit rates since the 1980s, enabling a massive build-up with modern, offensive weapons.  We are likely to find the Chinese endangering our interests and security in the Pacific and, increasingly, elsewhere — from Central Asia to Africa to our own hemisphere.
