The Doomsday Machine

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. The clock is ticking on your national security.  A congressional ‘Super Committee’ has just a few weeks to find 1.2 trillion dollars in spending cuts.  If it doesn’t succeed, America’s military will be the principal billpayer, with funding for our troops slashed by some $600 billion. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has called that prospect “the Doomsday Machine.” He’s right for at least two reasons:  First, these cuts would be on top of nearly half a trillion dollars that has already been reduced — or will shortly be — from the Pentagon’s budget.  The effect would be not just to hollow out our armed forces, but to eviscerate them. Second, the world is already becoming a very dangerous place, for us and other friends of freedom.  We literally cannot afford to make it more so.
