The Supercommittee Failure

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. The congressional supercommittee has failed.  So a mechanism Defense Secretary Leon Panetta calls the “doomsday machine” has been unleashed.  It will wreak havoc on the national security of the United States by cutting another 600 billion dollars from the defense budget.  Worse yet, these reductions come on top of the nearly half-a-trillion dollars in cuts the Pentagon is already struggling to absorb.  That means fewer forces in fewer places around the globe capable of defending our people and interests.  They will be equipped with obsolescing weapons that may prove inferior to those of their enemies, or inadequate to their missions.  We will lose lives unnecessarily – probably of both our troops and our citizens at home. Eighty-two percent of Americans told pollsters recently that they oppose further defense spending cuts.  So should our leaders.
