China’s New GPS

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. It’s not the Chinese New Year, but China obviously has big plans for 2012. Last week, the Peoples Republic rolled out the newest model of their version of the U.S. Global Positioning System. Like its American counterpart, the Chinese GPS will have civilian applications.  But the Peoples Liberation Army will use it extensively to improve the accuracy of various weapon systems designed to deny our armed forces access to the Western Pacific and East Asia. Even more troubling is the prospect that, once the PRC’s constellation of navigation satellites is in place, the Chinese will be able to use their arsenal of space control weapons to neutralize our GPS satellites.  The effect would be catastrophic – on our military and civilians alike.
