Politics of Unilateral Disarmament

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. Is unilaterally disarming America good politics? One would think the answer is a no-brainer. But some self-described conservatives seem to think that running to the left of Barack Obama is a responsible national security strategy, sound economically and a winning political platform. None of these is true. Eviscerating our military only makes destructive and costly wars more likely. The defense spending cuts now in the works will result by some estimates in a million workers losing their high-paying, high-skilled jobs – to say nothing of probably several hundred thousand more who will be forced out of uniform and out of the government workforce. Fortunately, all three of the Republican presidential candidates who have actually won to date embrace Ronald Reagan’s philosophy of “peace through strength.” The American people deserve – and must accept – nothing less.
