Nuclear Accountability

In 2010, President Obama signed a deal with the Russians making deep cuts in U.S. nuclear forces.

Senators who had to approve this deal, known as the New START Treaty, were skeptical about its advisability – worrying that, its one-sided and unverifiable terms would not require the Russians to eliminate any of their weapons, only us.

The Senate’s approval ultimately depended on Mr. Obama promising to upgrade what would remain of America’s deterrent forces. Now, he is walking away from that pledge. Worse yet, he has ordered the Pentagon to prepare plans for a unilateral eighty percent reduction in our obsolescing and much-diminished nuclear arsenal. Rep. Mike Turner of Ohio wants to hold President Obama accountable for disarming us in an increasingly dangerous world. A presidential campaign is the perfect time to do it.
