President Obama has been treating his British counterpart, Prime Minister David Cameron, to the sort of red carpet treatment that seemed unimaginable at the start of this presidency.
Back then, Mr. Obama seemed determined to do everything possible to act out his Kenyan father’s hostility toward the colonial Brits.
The President would be well advised now to follow David Cameron’s lead with respect to dealing with domestic Islamists. Team Obama has been emulating a British program known as “Prevent” that made embracing such enemies the centerpiece of Britain’s counterterrorist strategy.
But the Brits have recognized the obvious: Prevent is a complete, and dangerous, failure. So is its American counterpart. Dumping this approach would be tangible proof that the U.S.-U.K. special relationship really is special, and back on a sound footing.
