Even by North Korean standards, the latest example of its contemptuous bad faith in deal-making with the West marks a new standard of brazenness and contempt for its interlocutors, namely us.
Three weeks ago, we were told the newly installed Kim Jong-Un regime would suspend, its long-range missile tests. In exchange, it was to get a quarter-million tons of food aid from the United States.
Now we learn that Kim will celebrate the hundredth birthday of his despot-grandfather, Kim il Sung, by trying to launch a satellite into space. It will be aboard, guess what, a long-range missile – inherently testing militarily relevant technologies and systems in the process.
We need no more evidence that the malevolent North Korean regime must go, not be perpetuated by U.S. food aid, money or political support.
