China’s One-Child Policy

For years, a blind Chinese dissident named Chen Guangcheng defied the Communist Party’s dictates and censorship, earning him and his wife chronic beatings under house arrest.

Miraculously, Chen managed to escape last week. He stealthily fled some 300 miles to Beijing, apparently securing American diplomatic protection there. That’s particularly inconvenient, coming as it does on the eve of a major and carefully choreographed bilateral love fest involving a U.S. delegation of several hundred, led by the Secretaries of State and Treasury.

Most inconvenient of all, however, is Mr. Chen’s cause: He has relentlessly campaigned against Communist China’s brutal so-called “one child policy” – a practice that amounts to a genocide against female children. Let’s stand with Chen Guangcheng, and against an authentic Chinese “war on women.”
