Just before Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a gaggle of others arrived in Beijing, China this week, a courageous blind dissident named Chen Guangcheng miraculously escaped horrific house arrest and found safe haven in the U.S. embassy there.
Yesterday, Mr. Chen left that protection after receiving Chinese assurances that he and his family would be safe. Today, this critic of China’s abominable one-child policy tells Western reporters that he felt pressured to leave the embassy, that he fears for the lives of his loved ones and that he wants them all to leave China with Mrs. Clinton.
On this National Day of Prayer, let’s pray the Obama administration will put pressure where it should have been all along – on the Communist Chinese to free this brave man and his family.
