Want to know whether the end of the Afghan war “as we understand it” that President Obama promised last week will produce an outcome consistent with our security? Look no further than what happened yesterday in Pakistan.
Dr. Shakil Afridi, a Pakistani physician who helped us find Osama bin Laden, has just been sentenced to 33 years in prison for “treason.”
In other words, the Pakistani government wants to protect, not defeat, such enemies of our country – including notably, the Taliban. And you can bet Pakistan will do everything possible to help restore them to power as we bug out of neighboring Afghanistan.
We are on notice. Dr. Afridi’s fate – or worse – will soon be shared by many Afghans who made the mistake of helping us defeat our common foes.
