Last week, President Obama told new graduates of the Air Force Academy that, despite massive cuts in defense spending being made by his administration, “We will maintain our military superiority in all areas -- air, land, sea, space and cyber.”

Such a statement is a great send-off for future leaders of our armed forces. Unfortunately, it can’t possibly be true.
With the nearly $800 billion already excised from the Pentagon budgets over the next ten years – to say nothing of the devastating further $500 billion cut due to kick in next year – we will be lucky to be competitive with future adversaries. Superiority will, in important respects, be out of the question.
We need the truth. And, if given it, Americans will surely reject this formula for weakness and insecurity.
