Syria’s dictator, Bashar Assad, has declared that his country is now at war. Not exactly a news flash, but Assad’s announcement suggests that the arming of the Syrian opposition by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and reportedly by our own government is now translating into a full-fledged civil war.

That means we are now involved in providing weapons to rebels who are, at best, associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. At worst, they are tied to al Qaeda.
If they succeed in overthrowing Assad’s regime, it is likely that we will simply see it replaced by another one whose repressiveness will be no less brutal. But it will be justified by the Islamic doctrine of shariah.
Should that happen, we are simply compounding the danger of threats to our interests – and perhaps to us.
