As things stand now, the defense budget will be driven off a cliff in January when half-a-trillion dollars in additional cuts start to kick in – wreaking havoc on the troops and all they do for our security.
Fortunately, some are having second-thoughts about this dangerous game. Sadly, that’s not due to sudden concerns about the risks they are running for this country. Rather, it’s because pink-slips will have to go out to perhaps more than a million, highly paid defense sector employees just before the November election.
Whatever the impetus, Washington must not allow this game of chicken to endanger not just our armed forces, but all the rest of us.
