In Egypt, the relatively pro-Western, U.S.-armed military is in a power-struggle with that nation’s newly installed Muslim Brotherhood president, Mohammed Morsi.  The stakes could scarcely be higher for these rivals, for the region and for us. If the Brotherhood succeeds in consolidating its grip on not only the presidency but the authorities vested in the legislative branch, it will be able to write a new constitution, establish Islam’s totalitarian shariah code as the law of the land and act on Morsi’s declared objective of “liberating” Jerusalem.  Worse yet, the Brotherhood’s larger, stated mission is to destroy Western civilization. President Obama has invited Mohammed Morsi to visit the White House. He is unmistakably taking sides in the internal struggle within Egypt – and encouraging the triumph of some of our most dangerous foes.
