Who Will Rule Syria?

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. The rising number of defections from the senior ranks of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s regime suggests that its days are numbered. The so-called “opposition” is increasingly well –armed and lethal – thanks to outside help from Turkey, the Saudis and Qatar and, apparently, the CIA. So, what’s next? It seems unlikely to be freedom for the Syrian people. Rather, they are likely to have imposed on them an Islamist form of totalitarianism as the replacement for Assad’s secular type. The new masters of Syria will be, at best, the Muslim Brotherhood, and at worst al Qaeda. If so, the danger will not be confined to Syrian territory or even to Israel. The jihadists may inherit chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction which could be a threat to us all. What’s the plan, President Obama?
