Hagel’s Flimflam

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. Confirmation conversion syndrome is a well-known phenomenon in official Washington.  Chuck Hagel, President Obama’s choice to be the next Secretary of Defense, however, seems to have a particularly bad case of the disease. The former Senator is telling his colleagues that he doesn’t believe practically any of the things the record indicates he has long advocated.  Now he strongly supports Israel -- a country he previously, routinely criticized.  Now he favors sanctions he previously mostly opposed on Iran and doesn’t like terrorist groups he previously wanted to engage. Expect more of this flimflammery in his upcoming hearing.  The question is:  Will Senators reward it by turning the Pentagon over to a man with well-established and very problematic beliefs just because he is willing to tell them now whatever they want to hear?
