Hey perverts. I'd say good morning, but honestly, I'd be lying. I'm aware there are plenty of good things to be celebrated, but right now, I'm in no mood. Today marks 2 years since a girl many of you know and love dearly, Sunny Rae, ended her life. There really isn't much anyone can do to console those of us who knew her well and especially those of us who were fortunate enough to be in love with her. I imagine her family is probably still greatly hurting over the loss, too. I only really talk to one of her sisters, but she and I both agree that it really doesn't get any less painful, just easier to distract ourselves as life goes on. Amity and Haley, if you're listening, my heart goes out to you and yours today. So, a few weeks ago, I wrote a post on Sunny's Facebook mentioning that I'd compiled about 5 hours worth of songs for this podcast and that I'd try to cut it down. Honestly, I've spent hours subtracting and adding songs here and there, but it still came out to about 5 hours. I don't expect anyone to listen to the whole thing. I probably won't even be able to listen to it all in one sitting. I've separated it into "parts," in an effort to explain the order and the content of the tracks. Hopefully, it'll do just that, and maybe also make it seem less excruciatingly long. I also don't expect anyone to be able to relate to all the songs in the context of their relationship to Sunny. I did try to choose more generally appropriate songs, rather than simply ones from a guy who loved her and wrote her weird poetry and shit. I didn't want this to be all self-indulgent because frankly, I don't want to keep telling our story. I don't want to get to a point where it feels boring even to me, because my memories with her are some of the most beautiful I've ever experienced (and likely will ever experience) and I'll always cherish them. To that end, I've made an effort to exclude more of the particularly significant music that she and I shared with each other. There are still quite a few especially meaningful tracks like that, but because I know there are many people out there who'd say without a doubt that Sunny was the love of their lives, (I'm no exception) I wanted to make something meaningful for both myself and others. Truly, my greatest hope is that anyone listening will be able to hear these songs and have them resonate with them in relation to their experiences with Sunny. Anyway, I've yammered on enough. I hope anyone who listens enjoys it, at least, for what it is, and I hope all of you who are hurting like me today find some comfort somewhere. I'll see you next week.
