I'm currently recording this spoken portion from Squirrel's Asshole, Illinois, aka Cave-In-Rock, and right now I'm just sittin' in my canopy watching a bunch of people tear shit down. I had a rough first few days here at the Gathering, but I managed to get myself out of my funk and enjoyed the fuck out of the last three days. I was smokin' hookah and giving coffee to all sorts of people from all over the country, and it felt pretty damn great. Lots of people came by just to chill and shoot the shit, and it really helped improve my mood a lot. I barely had to do much more than set my shit up and post signs saying Free Hookah & Coffee, and sure, cynics might say they were just taking advantage of free shit. I'm sure there were many who did just that, but there were also many people who sat and talked for hours despite there being tons of shit to do here.
Anyway, I have to give a little explanation for this first track because I put it on last week's edition as well. Something about this track reminded me of Sunny, and I was going to make a video of me playing it during my DJing at the Gathering, but my goddamn DJ controller crapped out in a few weird ways that I couldn't figure out how to fix, so that plan crashed and burned. I'm sure I'll get the chance to do that again at some point, but for now, I'm just going to dedicate it right here. The first song, Summit, is for anyone out there who's ever lost someone they loved dearly to suicide. It's really one of those things that never gets easier to deal with; you just have to put it out of your mind as best as you can, and go on with your life.
