POP Goes The Empire

 

 

NPR did a story this week on the 20th anniversary of "Britpop", marking the beginning of the era as Sept. 8, 1993 when Suede took home the Mercury Music Prize, Britain and Ireland's "album of the year" award, for its self-titled debut.
While a valid argument could indeed be made for that, on tonight's Pop Goes The World, I'll do my own "Britpop" celebration playing some of my favorite Britpop tracks of the era, taking it back even a few years earlier and extending it to see who's currently picked up the torch.
