GridEx II

For the next two days, many U.S. electric utilities are simulating the effects of a serious blackout.
We already know from five federal studies, however, that the repercussions would likely be long-lasting and probably “catastrophic.”

So just what is GridEx II supposed to add to our understanding of the risks facing the grid – and the critical infrastructures that support it and life in 21st Century America?

GridEx II seems less about identifying and correcting the grid’s myriad vulnerabilities than about concealing them, giving a false sense of security regarding a real and present danger.

If so, Congressman Trent Franks’ recent warning will be vindicated: “GridEx II may actually be a grave disservice to the consumer, to the public more generally and perhaps to America's vital national security.”
