Had a great talk with Jerleen Bryant, CEO of the Maui Humane Society. The Maui Humane Society was first organized in 1953. We have been concerned with animal welfare since our inception, and operated a volunteer-run shelter until 1987. At that time we received a Maui County contract to not only handle all field operations for animal management in the community, but also partially fund an animal shelter and adoption center.
We are Maui County’s only open admission shelter, handle all animal management, are the only organization offering humane education programs, and have the largest spay-neuter assistance program in the county. Our humane enforcement officers work with and educate pet owners in violation of county codes instead of merely writing citations. We work to help prepare families for safety in times of disaster and have an amazing adoptions/reunions program. We are committed to providing exemplary service to our community and encourage the creation and growth of programs, services and partnerships that will enable us to better carry out our mission.
We are proud of the services and programs we provide to Maui County every day and are diligently working to reduce the number of neglected and unwanted animals through education, outreach, and spay-neuter programs, thereby increasing the number of happy forever homes in our community.
