Sampling DNA from air tells surprising things about animals

An upcoming technique for wildlife and environmental monitoring is the collection of environmental DNA or eDNA. This can be captured through a number of methods including by sampling the air around where animals move. ThePrint’s Sandhya Ramesh explains findings from Denmark and UK where researchers sampled the air in and around zoos to find a surprising windfall of genetic information, including that of animals not in the zoo as well as dead meat.
