69. 🫡Duty or Devotion...Which Describes Your Faith Life?

Today’s topic was inspired by my morning devotional and it occurred to me that the subject matter might qualify as a ‘sneaky second cousin’ to people pleasing.  

 

We have talked a lot about striving for the approval of others in order to be validated or somehow find our value, and how that is an empty pursuit.  But I don’t know how much we have talked about something that can be a bit sneakier in appearing like a good thing as we seek to grow in our faith. 

 

Sometimes we swap seeking to please people with seeking to please God, not from a trust and relational standpoint, but from a works and striving standpoint.  We approach God out of duty more than devotion.  

 

We don’t have to Do anything to earn God’s love.  It has always been there for us. His love for us has no end and it does not grow or decrease based upon our actions.  God does want us to accept his gift of salvation and live a life more like Christ, but that is because He loves us and wants us to experience all of the abundance that comes from living a life that is fully dependent on Him.
