This morning as I walked out onto the dock and looked down into the bay, I caught myself saying aloud, “I’ve never seen the bay so still.”
Settling in on a bench with Teddy in my lap, coffee in my hand, and dawn breaking before me I noticed something.
I noticed that the sunrise behind me didn’t seem to illuminate the bay with its usual awe-inspiring panoply of colors.
It was pretty, yes, but not the breathtaking spectacle I’m used to seeing.
Out in the distance, a small boat cut through the water and as its waves ambled toward me the sunlight danced upon the now rolling surface and the morning was its usual breathtaking self.
Here’s the takeaway for us: our brilliance comes out during the waves, not the calm.
And every day is an opportunity to observe (rather than curse) the waves...
