Ruth Copland interviews Mick Dawson, world-record holder, film-maker, Royal Marines Commando, sailor, defender of ships from Somali pirates, and motivational speaker. Having served in the Falklands War at seventeen and in the Middle East Mick followed his military career by pursuing his passion for the ocean and gained a world record with Chris Martin for being the first and only people to successfully row 7,000 miles across the North Pacific to San Francisco. We talk about Mick's life of adventure; why he pushes himself to break boundaries; the experiences that led to the epic North Pacific row; his brush with death; his documentary film about 189 days at sea 'Rowing the Pacific' produced with the Discovery Channel; what inspires him to keep stretching himself, and more.
