Mr. John Kendall “Big John” Stewart, Jr., 49, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at First Health Palliative and Hospice House. He grew up on the Stewart Farm with his parents, Kendall and Faye Stewart who preceded him in death.
John was an avid hunter and there was nothing he liked better than being in the woods with his dogs, especially “John Henry” and his hunting friends. He was a member of several hunting clubs including Cedar Creek Hunt Club, DC Blue and Fork Gun Club.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 11 am at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jerome Smith presiding. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
John is survived by his sisters, Audrey Stewart of Carthage and Michelle Bridges (Jay) of Sanford; also his beloved niece, Autumn Bridges (Alex McLester) of Raleigh; surviving him also are his aunts and uncles, Barbara Norris of Broadway, Tillman Thomas of Edenton, Johnnie Thomas (Vivian) of Hickory, Glenda Black (Charles) of Mamers and Troy Thomas of Broadway; also surviving are many cousins.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 am in the church sanctuary.
