By the Scars Shall You Know — Daniel Ausema

It is the duty of every adult who lives in the City of Thorns to walk among those thorns and submit to the wounds they cause. On their return, they must allow the priests to read those scars for the good of the city. Catrix sets out on his first scar walk, and discovers that the thorns are not what the priests had led him to believe, but wilder and more dangerous.
