(Natalia Terfa) Mary’s act of anointing made the disciples uncomfortable. It was a smell that had connotations the disciples were not ready to face or deal with. At this moment they did what so many of us do without realizing we are doing it - they found something else to get mad about. How wasteful. How sinful. Tell her to go away. Jesus’ response “leave her alone” reminds us that we cannot and should not ignore or be afraid of the death that is coming, no matter how uncomfortable it makes us.
