One of the biggest questions we get to walk through with our business coaching clients is…
“How do I know how to set goals and plan for business growth and profit when James 4:13-14 says that we’re not supposed to do it?”
On the surface it looks like James is telling us that it is arrogant to be planning each day and instead we should say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
Well, how does that fit with the reality of needing to make solid plans to ensure business success?
Even Jesus said in Mat 6:25-34 that we mustn’t worry about tomorrow because we have no ability to affect it.
But before you pull your hair out my friend, let’s look a little deeper…
The heart behind both verses is an invitation to be so rooted in God’s love for you that you no longer try to make your own way in life.
When we set goals from this place, we’re coming at it from the wrong mind and heart space. It’s an ‘orphan’ mindset that says
“I’ve got to look out for myself because no-one else will”.
And this is what both Jesus and James are really going after – getting rid of that orphan mindset by showing us how to step into being a son or daughter of a loving Father.
