Bob Sanborn, Interim Executive Director of The Provincetown Business Guild talks with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ about what’s happening this summer in Provincetown, Massachusetts and beyond. From 20 members in 1978 to over 300 members today the Provincetown Business Guild (PBG) is the first tourism organization in the country whose primary mission is to promote and support tourism for LGBTQ visitors. The Guild is committed to improving the Provincetown community by advocating for the acceptance of diversity and tolerance through projects, programs and education. The Guild welcomes residents and visitors to experience America’s first LGBTQ tourist destination. One of the most popular events this summer is the Provincetown Carnival that takes place August 17th through the 24th. This year’s theme is The Enchanted Forest and for the 41st Annual Carnival Parade that takes place on August 22nd the Grand Marshals will be Lea Delaria and Trixie Mattel with David Velasco Bermudez who is a Stonewall Riots Survivor named as Honorary Grand Marshal. The parade begins at 3P along Commercial Street and you’re encouraged to come dressed in your most fabulous Carnival themed finery. We talked to Bob about what he hopes to accomplish with the Provincetown Business Guild and his spin on our LGBTQ issues.
Bob Sanborn comes from an accounting, financial services, marketing and risk management background. Following his corporate career he owned two Provincetown guest houses the Prince Albert and Queen Vic for 13 years. He has also served as the Town’s Tourism Director and served on the Town’s Visitor Services Board for a number of years. When the former Executive Director of the Provincetown Business Guild (PBG) resigned earlier this year he agreed to take the helm. The PBG’s mission is to promote and market Provincetown as an LBGTQ year round destination and to produce events such as PRIDE, Carnival, Holly Folly and First Light. In 2018 The Provincetown Business Guild and its separate 501(c)3 entity launched The Provincetown LGBTQ Welcome & Resource Center (“The Center”) with a new storefront for The Center at 368 Commercial Street. This is a great way to begin your Provincetown adventure so be sure to check it out.
