EPA’s WOTUS Update: Ranchers Weigh In

The long-debated Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule is shifting once again, with a major announcement from EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. Speaking in Washington, D.C., Zeldin pledged to finalize a WOTUS definition that is simple, durable, and aligned with the Supreme Court’s Sackett decision. Mary-Thomas Hart, Chief Counsel for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), welcomed the announcement, saying it signals a move toward regulatory certainty after years of legal battles. The revised rule aims to focus on truly impactful water features while reducing federal overreach on private land. Hart encourages farmers and ranchers to stay engaged in the rulemaking process and voice their concerns.
