This week’s episode is with Sophie Mahoney. Sophie is an accredited practising dietitian who has worked in the health industry for over 10 year, 3 of those years as a dietitian. Sophie has her own online consulting business specialising in gut and mental health, and has just launched an online program helping people optimise their diet to improve their energy, mood, anxiety and gut health. Sophie also works in research at the Food and Mood Centre, part of Deakin University, and is currently assisting with running a dietary trial for people with irritable bowel syndrome and anxiety or depression.
Today, Sophie and I chat about the Mediterranean diet and food & mood. We start by discussing how diet affect our mental health, what nutrition and lifestyle factors we can use to improve our mental health, the research behind a Mediterranean diet, what a Mediterranean diet looks like, who would benefit from following the Mediterranean diet and some simple tips for improving our mood and mental health.
You can follow Sophie on her Instagram or visit her website or check out her new program, Happy Guts & Mind.
Queen Garnet
Today’s podcast episode is brought to you by the Queen Garnet. The Queen Garnet is a Queensland-owned variety of Japanese plum that is naturally high in a particular type of antioxidant known as anthocyanin.
Although the fresh Queen Garnet’s are now out of season, there are 4 wonderful value added products in the online Queen Garnet store (there’s plum powder, Australian plum nectar, probiotic and prebiotic powder + probiotic chewables), head to https://queengarnet.com/shop and use my 15% off discount code, “LEANNE15” to savings some dollars.
