John P. Mackintosh is widely recognised as one of the most influential political figures of his generation. A highly respected academic, gifted orator and prolific writer, he served from 1966 to 1978 as Labour MP for Berwick and East Lothian and was Professor of Politics at the University of Edinburgh.
This wide ranging discussion, led by a panel of leading figures from political and academic life, considered Mackintosh’s legacy examined some of the contemporary issues and challenges facing democracy today.
The event was held in the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament, and was chaired by the Rt Hon Ken Macintosh MSP, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament.
